MSTAR Portable Radar Carrying Case
The carry and protection case for the second-generation low-profile MSTAR Portable Radar was needed urgently. The brief stressed full protection during transportation.
Since the radar features working parts which are positioned in the open on a base plate, Fine Group’s design needed to have the protection – cushioning, protection pads and stiffening - built into the case. The solution also needed to hold the assembly in place securely during transit, yet at the same time the case should be easy to put in place and remove.
The case was designed and tested. Only minor changes were necessary for a second prototype to be approved and pass into full production. Design, development and bulk production were all undertaken in the UK.
The case needed to be as small and low profile as possible, and to be a comfortable, secure carry for one person for distances of up to one mile. The design process was made even more challenging as no model, mock-up or product was available – only pictures of a first prototype with dimensions.
